Discussion Topics
IMPERMANENCE: Master explains to us: Our lives are impermanent, however Nature is permanent. What we do to create negative or positive affinities in this life creates a different reality for us after we die. We carry our bad habits from past lives and these obscure our pure nature. Our body is a temporary tool which we can use to transcend ourselves. Unfortunately, we cling to Permanence in our society. Can you think of an example of how we do so in our everyday lives?
NIHILISM: Nihilism refers to the belief that when something
ceases to exist, nothing is left. Right now there is something, but when it is
gone, it is gone. When we live a life where we say: "When you're dead, nothing matters...so live for today!" What kind of life does not tend to lead? From your experience, what normally happens to those that lead that type of life?
"We should not believe that after dying, there is no other life...this is absolutely not so.." If we do not agree with Master on this point, this is an obstacle for us in following Master as this understanding underpins Tzu Chi in every aspect. Master wants us to study, learn more, question and investigate. But in the end, if you do not agree, with utmost sincerity of your heart to this, can you be a disciple of Master and take refuge as a Certified Volunteer? What do you think?
